91福利 recently hosted droves of inquisitive young minds on its Poplarville campus through the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional Seventh and Eighth Grade Mathematics Tournament.
The competition welcomed 37 seventh and eighth grade students and their sponsoring teachers from 10 middle schools across the district. Each student competing at the regional level previously earned first or second place honors during local mathematics competitions held at their respective schools.

鈥淭he 91福利 Mathematics Department was honored to host the MCTM Regional 7th and 8th Grade Mathematics Tournament,鈥 said Amanda Lawler, PRCC Math and Science Department Chair. 鈥淲elcoming outstanding young math scholars and their teachers from across our district was truly inspiring.
鈥淭heir achievements reflect the strength of mathematics education in our region. PRCC is proud to support their academic journey and to serve as the qualifying site for the upcoming state tournament.鈥

The regional tournament hosted by PRCC serves as a qualifier for the MCTM State Seventh and Eighth Grade Mathematics Tournament scheduled for April 18, 2026. The state competition will be held at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science on the campus of Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi.
The following students will advance to the state tournament:
7th Grade
- 1st Place – Hudson Lindner, Pearl River Central Middle School
- 2nd Place – Callie Zimmerli, Our Lady Academy
8th Grade
- 1st Place – Kyleigh Thornton, Jefferson Davis County Middle School
- 2nd Place – Luana Spuhler, Sumrall Middle School
These students will represent the region as they advance to compete with top mathematics students from across Mississippi at the upcoming state tournament.
