How To Apply

We are pleased that you have shown an interest in the Dental Hygiene program at 91.Below, you will find the information and steps needed to apply.

Please note- this information is subject to change at any time. It is the applicant’s responsibility to check the website regularly for updates.

Complete PRCC Application

Within 3-5 days after you apply, you will receive RiverGuide Credentials.

Current PRCC students may skip to the Information Sessions section.

All required items must be submitted by the application deadline to be considered for program acceptance.

You must escript (preferred) or mail an official high school transcript and official transcripts from all previously attended colleges to:

Note: If college work was completed at any PRCC campus, please indicate you attended PRCC on your application and we will be able to retrieve your transcript. You do not have to send an official PRCC transcript.

Application

A new application has been implemented. Applicants are required to submit only the information requested within the application. Please do not submit any paper documents to the individual program.

Please make sure your Observation Hours form is uploaded and attached to your application before submitting.

Applications are done online only. The deadline is May 1 each year at 3pm

Upon completion of the application, you will receive an email stating that your application has been received for the current program application period along with further information.

  • ACT Score – sent to PRCC. Applicants must have an ACT score of 18 or higher to be considered for the program. If you have taken the ACT multiple times, please make sure that your highest score is on file with PRCC. If you would like your super score considered, you must request and pay for ACT to send it. If you have questions or concerns about multiple scores, please contact the DHT department.
  • Verification of Observation Hours Form - Observe a Registered Dental Hygienist for a minimum of four (4) hours, Maximum of (16) hours. You must have the verification form completed and uploaded with your application. Multiple forms with the number of hours observed may be used.
  • Course List Form – The course list form will be on the second page of the application. Please refer to special admission requirements below, to see required courses for the Dental Hygiene program. Please note, you will need both General Psychology (PSY 1513) AND Intro to Sociology (SOC 2113) to complete the requirements for an AAS in Dental Hygiene. All required science courses and Nutrition must be completed within the last 5 years. All states require licensure to practice this profession. A license is issued by the State Board of Dental Examiners after successful completion of both clinical and written examinations. The National Board of Dental Hygiene Examination must also be passed to qualify for licensure.

The courses listed below are required for graduation from the Dental Hygiene Program. Grades obtained from these courses listed below will be used in the Admissions Rubric. All courses must be completed with a grade ofCor higher to meet graduation requirements. Only courses that have been completed with afinal grade on your transcript by the May 6, 2025 deadline will be considered on the Admission Rubric. Mid Term grades are not used on the rubric.

Science courses: A & P I and II w/ lab or Principles of A&P I and II w/ lab. Microbiology w/ lab, General Chemistry w/ lab or Principles of Chemistry w/ lab. All required Science courses must have been completed within the last 5years.

Non-Science Courses:English Composition I, General Psychology, Public Speaking, Intro to Sociology, a Humanities or English Comp II, and Nutrition. Nutrition must be taken within the last 5 years.

  • Academic standing of “probation”, “suspension”, “dismissal” or the like at other institutions is considered in the evaluation of applicants.
  • Completion of the Dental Hygiene academic core curriculum prior to application does not guarantee admission to the program.
  • Students not selected for admission in fall of the current year must reapply before the fall of the upcoming year deadline to be considered.
  • Meeting the minimum requirements listed above does not guarantee any applicant admission to the Dental Hygiene program or an interview.
  • Upon acceptance, the applicant must submit a college approved health/vaccination form and complete CPR training for health care providers with an AED component. Students accepted into the program will also complete a background check and drug screen prior to starting classes.

*Any advice given by the Dental Hygiene Technology Department regarding coursework does not ensure acceptance into the program.

*Preference is given to Mississippi Residents.

Admission Interviews

Please note, if you are selected for an interview, you will receive an email concerning dates and times of interviews. 15 students are accepted each year to start the fall semester in the Dental Hygiene Program.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
