How To Apply
Dear Prospective Student:Ìý
We are pleased that you have shown interest in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at PRCC. Please carefully read the admission requirements below before beginning the application process.Ìý
You must first be enrolled as a PRCC student before applying to this, or any other, PRCC program.
Applications are due by May 1st of each year. (Those submitted after May 1 of the respective year will not be considered.)
Admission Requirements for Fall 2026
Students applying to the DMS program at PRCC must hold either
- a bachelor’s degree in any field
Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý Ìý ÌýOR
- an associates degree from an allied health program that involves direct patient care.
This includes but is not limited to Radiologic Technology, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Therapy, ADN, Occupational Therapy Assistant, and Physical Therapist Assistant. Completion of any allied health program not listed is subject to review by the DMS Program Director. All applicants who have completed an allied health program must be credentialed in the respective profession by the start of the DMS program.
- All college transcripts must be sent to PRCC’s admissions office by e-script. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure PRCC has received the transcript(s) in order to be added to the DMS Program application.
- American College Test (ACT) Scores – minimum of 18. Attaching documentation of these scores to the program application is preferred but not required as PRCC should already have this.
ÌýThe following documents need to be attached to the program application upon submission –Ìý
- Documentation of a minimum of 16 shadowing hours in a diagnostic ultrasound department. Shadowing hours done in a Cardiac or OBGYN clinical setting will not be accepted.Ìý Applicant’s name, dates, times, and staff signature must be provided on the medical facility’s letterhead.
- Proof of vision exam with color-blind assessment
Ìý These courses can be in progress when applying, but must be completed with a grade of “C” or better prior to the start of the DMS program –Ìý
- English Comp IÌýor Public Speaking
- College Algebra
- Human Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab or Principles of A&P 1 and Lab
- Human Anatomy and Physiology II and Lab or Principles of A&P 2 and Lab
Upon receipt of the application and all required documents, qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule clinical area observations (at least four hours) and an interview by the PRCC DMS Selection Committee.

TRANSCRIPTS/ACT*
The applicant is responsible for ensuring their high school and previous college (if applicable) transcripts and highest ACT composite score have been received by the PRCC Admissions Office.Ìý
Applicant’s high school GPA is part of the selection process and vital to acceptance. Ìý
GED/HiSet
A GED/HiSet Test Result Form with scores must be included if you completed a GED (Diploma Equivalence) program.Ìý
